ADAMSTUEN

With our master plan for Adamstuen in Oslo, we show that it is not necessary to make a compromise between building and biology in order to achieve an architectural balance in a master plan. Our plan is based on the existing typologies, and an understanding of the place’s significant cultural history, architectural qualities, its nature, identity and atmosphere.

Our ambition with Adamstuen is to create a flexible and holistic plan

that zooms out and goes beyond the area’s boarder, to act as a social, climatic and landscape link and create a cohesion for the entire area. With Adamstuen we are building on the already important foundation stones – the cultural-historical buildings and the green qualities in the area on which the future story of Adamstuen will be based. At the same time, we make the area more accessible, create active edge zones, use nature as a resource and create urban spaces for play and learning.

ADAMSTUEN’S PAST AND FUTURE

Adamstuen has for many years been allowed to look after himself. Which has created a place with a special historical character and identity. Historically, Adamstuen has evolved from agricultural land, which defined the transition between town and country, to now present a potential new urban link between the surrounding context. In our project we divide the area in two, with different development strategies. In the south we create an urban district, where selected historical buildings and cultural environment are preserved and in the north part of Adamstuen we focus on creating a green residential area, where the green and urban nature is cultivated and reinforced. The division is made based on the area’s history and current identity, where the

desire is to create the best basis for a dense, robust and lively area that is based on the past, adapted to the present and secured against the future. It is created with an overall desire to use the architecture to create regenerative cities.

The development of the future building stock is proposed with a uniform scale and distribution, which means a continuation of the 4-5 floor buildings seen towards Lindern Hageby. The whole area is made more accessible and the city and surrounding neighbourhood invited to the area with the establishment of new connections and activation of central buildings and urban spaces.
